I’ve been wanting to get a new camera for a while, so I made the mistake of searching for a camera online, and now every feed in every social and every ad on every site is just camera gear.
I wanted something more like the camera I learned on, which was an old Minolta manual from the 80s. Ideally, I just want something that lets me change the aperture and shutter speed manually.

Somewhere in the search, I found out about the OM System cameras, and I was looking pretty seriously at the PEN, which is getting great reviews, and seems to be punching way above its price. So, I took time out on a Saturday to visit a shop that had it, and I just didn’t love it.
I told the salesman what I was looking for. He took me through all of the OM System stuff, including the OM-1, OM-5, and OM-3, and I just wasn’t into it. I know it’s a stupid, picky, silly thing to want a certain type of control panel, but, that’s me, I guess.

Eventually, he told me that I might want to look at the Fuji digitals, because there were a couple that sounded like what I was looking for. That ended up being a real problem, because the Fujifilm X-E5 is EXACTLY what I’m looking for, but it’s WAY more expensive than the OM System.

In the end, I just gave up and grabbed my Cybershot RX100V out of the drawer where it has been resting lonely. I should try to use that for a while before I make any stupid $2400 decisions.
Also, I’ve been putting off buying things that I actually need, like some new work pants.
